How to get the Fathom Dweller Mount & Hungering Claw Pet

If you've been following this blog for a while you'll know that I LOVE mounts. Mounts and pets are the thing I care about most in game. Hands down. Gear comes and goes, but mounts and pets are forever. <3

Well, when I first laid eyes on the Fathom Dweller mount, I knew I just had to have to have it. I mean, just LOOK at this thing! It's one of the few underwater mounts we can obtain, it'll give you a 108% increase in swim speed, it also looks totally gorgeous and unique.

Fathom Dweller Mount
Thankfully the amazing community over at Wowhead came together and figured out how to obtain it recently, and it's quite different from anything we've done in the past.

How to get the Mount:
Hungering Claw Pet
The mount itself is a reward from the world quest: DANGER: Kosumoth the Hungering. (The same world quest also rewards the very cool looking Hungering Claw battle pet - the reward alternates periodically between the two.) In order to see this world quest and pick it up you'll need to go through an attunement process.

The attunement will require you to set aside a few hours to run all over the Broken Isles finding small pinkish-looking orbs and clicking them in the correct order. There are ten orbs altogether, but before you can start clicking orbs you'll need to talk to an orc named Drak'thul and pick up an item on The Broken Shore (more detail in next section).

On the map below you can see exactly where each orb is located and they are numbered so you know which order to click them in. The starting point, relic you'll need and location of the final world quest are all on there as well.

New Rares in Nagrand and Tannan Jungle (Patch 6.2.2)

Yeah I know, I haven't been posting much this expansion. With two kiddos under three years old, it's pretty hard to find the time these days. There's just no way I would have been able to cover the insane amount of rares added in WoD. Thankfully little additions to the game like the new 6.2.2 rares aren't too much to take on, and have motivated me to write up a quick post.

I also figured it was about time to make a few updates around the blog on various pages, the most notable one being to the "List of Rares by Zone" page. I couldn't cover every vignette in Draenor or the treasures right now, but I did link to the Wowhead guides for each zone so that they can be easily found in one place.

So anyway, let's get on to these new rares! In the latest mini patch 6.2.2 there were seven new rares introduced (all pictured on the map above). Three of these are located in the un-instanced version of Highmaul in Nagrand, one is located in the un-instanced version of Hellfire Citadel, and the remaining three are located beyond the Dark Portal in Tanaan Jungle. All of these rares can be accessed with flying mounts after achieving Draenor Pathfinder.

Wetlands Rare Spawns

Wetlands is a very aptly-named, swampy and predominantly Alliance zone. Throughout your sodden travels, keep your eyes out for twelve rares that call Wetlands their home.

Probably one of the more well-known rares in this zone is the Razormaw Matriarch, who used to drop the Razormaw Hatchling pet. This pet no longer drops from her, and can now be looted directly from her nest which can be found right near by her spawn point. (Nest shown in screenshots below.) You can find her in the cave at Raptor Ridge. When you enter the cave, simply stick to your right. She spawns at the end of the peninsula in the cavern filled with shallow water. She is also tamable, although not unique.

Leech Widow, the green and black spider, can also be found in a cave (Thelgen Rock). The entrance is at 53.2, 62.9. She is located deep inside, beside the large shallow pool of water. Again, she is tamable but not unique. Sludginn can be found in the bottom of Ironbeard's Tomb, and he is HUGE. He takes up the entire area! The rest of the rares in this zone can be found outdoors.

Isle of Thunder Rare Spawns

There are a total of eleven rares on the Isle of Thunder. Ten of them are required for the achievement Champions of Lei Shen. They are all on very short re-spawn timers that seem to be between 30min to an hour, and certain rares become available after unlocking different Stages of progression on the Isle. (More info on that below.)

All of these rares (minus Ra'sha) share the new tapping system introduced in patch 5.2, where so long as you participate in killing the rare you will have access to it's loot. As more and more people join in on the fight, the mob's health pool will increase with each additional player. All in all, I think this new system is great, as it gives players around the Isle more time to get to each rare once it's been called out.

Each of these rares is guaranteed to drop a Tome of Valor worth 15 valor points each time you kill them. They will also drop a single Shan'ze Ritual Stone and a Key to the Palace of Lei Shen for an individual character once each week (so long as you haven't already looted the key elsewhere). Obtaining three ritual stones will unlock the group quest Setting the Trap, which will then lead to the weekly group quest Champions of the Thunder King. Obtaining a Key to the Palace of Lei Shen will unlock the weekly solo scenario Troves of the Thunder King where you will have five minutes to grab as much treasure as you can before the clock runs out.

These rares also have a very small chance to drop the item that begins the questline for warlocks to get their green fire; Sealed Tome of the Lost Legion. The tome seems to be roughly a 2-3% drop chance off of any one of the rares (minus Ra'sha), and can only be looted by warlocks. When combined with a Healthstone the item becomes The Codex of Xerrath, which starts the questline with An Unusual Tome.

So without further adieu, here are each of these rares listed below in the order they became accessible on the Isle. If you scroll further down the page I also have a slightly more up to date map showing exactly where they can be found.

Haywire Sunreaver Construct
NPCID: 50358
Coordinates: 48, 85
Location Description: Running along the shores in southwestern Ihgaluk Crag
Base Health: 10539k
Notable Loot: Sunreaver Micro-Sentry

Abilities: Haywire: Go Haywire! Deals 18500 to 21500 Nature damage to all enemies within 40 yards every 1 sec. for 20 sec and increases movement speed by 100%. (Ranged players can still dps him and not get hit, so long as you stay right at about 40 yards. Others should be able to heal through it. If you don't have heals, I recommend getting away from him for the 20 seconds he casts this.)

Dread Wastes Rare Champions

Looking for fun vanity items? Rare companion pets? Or perhaps something more useful? Look no further, the rares in Dread Wastes can drop all of these things. Each of the items are listed below next to the rare that can drop them. You can also see some screenshots of each of these items in action in this post: Sneak Peek: Special drops from Rare Champions of Pandaria.

The rares in this zone are all level 90, with health pools around 3.8M. They each have a 100% chance to drop either an item level 440 or 450 rare quality bop chest piece of a random armor type and a small chance to drop a Small Bag of Goods.

As I have stated in a previous post - many of them seem to spawn in around the same time, so if you run across a corpse or someone else fighting one of these rares it wouldn't hurt to check the rest of the spawn points to see if any others are up.

Ai-Li Skymirror (Pandaren)

Ai-Li Skymirror can be found kneeling in the middle of what's left of a large dead tree stump just south of Rikkitun Village.

Like other Pandaren Ai-Li's three abilities are Chi BurstHealing Mists and Spinning Crane Kick. The most important thing to know when taking her down is to interrupt Healing Mists, and run away from Spinning Crane Kick. Ranged players should also stand within 15 yards of her to avoid her Chi Burst which deals some pretty massive damage.

Ai-Li has a small chance to drop a really neat vanity item called Ai-Li's Skymirror. This item allows you to take on the shimmery appearance of other players. It works on players using transformation mounts and other transformation items, druid shape-shifts, all sorts of fun stuff. The effects don't break in combat either like a lot of other transformation items do. The one downside to this item is that unfortunately it can't be used while mounted.

The Darkmoon Rabbit

I was strolling along the beach of Darkmoon Island a couple of days ago when I stumbled upon a cute little bunny. "Awwwwww, how adorable" I thought, "What's this poor little bunny doing out here all by it's lonesome self?"

I watched him clean his face with his cute little paws for a while, and scratch himself with his big poofy bunny feet. After a long preening session, he turned and started nibbling on something beneath him. I wondered..."what could he be eating on the beach? I hadn't noticed any grass or other greenery nearby..." That's when I started to open my eyes. It was like a light-switch suddenly turned on in my brain. I noticed bones littering the beach and cave nearby, the cute little bunnies face was covered in red; and something told me it wasn't from strawberries and fruit punch flavored popsicles... I targeted him, and my heart nearly stopped as I saw the "skull" on this little guy's portrait and 174M health. I backed away slowly hoping that I wouldn't alert him of my presence.

Ravasaur Matriarch and Her Nest (Ravasaur Hatchling)

Ravasaur Matriarch is a level 51 rare green raptor that can be found in south eastern Un'Goro Crater just south east of Marshal's Stand. (She is located in close proximity to her nests which I have indicated on the map below in red.) Before patch 3.3 she dropped the vanity pet Ravasaur Hatchling pictured on the right in the picture above. The hatchling no longer drops off of her but can now be looted directly from the nest Ravasaur Matriarch's Nest and is a 100% chance drop. As of 4.2 she drops a green and a decent amount of experience for toons around her level.

Ravasaur Matriarch does not need to be up for the nest to be spawned in and vice versa, they have independent spawn timers. Unlike the other raptors with nests though, her spawn timer and nest seem to be longer in roughly the 4-8+ hour range. I have found her alone before with no nest, I've found just the nest, and they could also both be up at the same time. I'd also like to note that for this particular raptor and nest I've found the nest spawned in more often than the raptor. The nest will also only spawn near the location of the rare raptor.

There are three other rare raptors with associated hatchlings and nests and those are:

Dart and Dart's Nest (Darting Hatchling)

Dart is a level 37 rare orange raptor that can be found in northern Dustwallow Marsh just east of Blackhoof Village. (I have indicated where he can be found on the map below in the red circle.) Before patch 3.3 he dropped the vanity pet Darting Hatchling pictured on the right in the picture above. The hatchling no longer drops off of him but can now be looted directly from the nest Dart's Nest and is a 100% chance drop. As of 4.2 he drops a green and a decent amount of experience for toons around his level.

Dart does not need to be up for the nest to be spawned in and vice versa, they have independent spawn timers which seem to be a couple of hours each. I have found him alone before with no nest, I've found just the nest and I've also found both up at the same time. The nest will also only spawn near the location of the rare raptor.

Takk the Leaper and Takk's Nest (Leaping Hatchling)

Takk the Leaper is a level 14 rare grey raptor that can be found in the north eastern part of Northern Barrens circling the mountains south of Nozzlepot's Outpost. (I have indicated where he is located  on the map below in red.) Before patch 3.3 he dropped the vanity pet Leaping Hatchling pictured on the right in the picture above. The hatchling no longer drops off of him but can now be looted directly from the nest Takk's Nest and is a 100% chance drop. As of 4.2 he drops a green and a decent amount of experience for toons around his level. He also makes an attractive hunter pet for low level horde characters.

Takk the Leaper does not need to be up for the nest to be spawned in and vice versa, they have independent spawn timers which seem to be a couple of hours each (maybe less). I have found him alone before with no nest, I've found just the nest and I've also found both up at the same time. The nest will also only spawn near the location of the rare raptor.

There are three other rare raptors with associated hatchlings and nests and those are:

Razormaw Matriarch and Her Nest (Razormaw Hatchling)

Razormaw Matriarch is a level 25 rare raptor that can be found inside the cave at Raptor Ridge in the Wetlands. (I have indicated where the cave entrance is located  on the map below.) Before patch 3.3 she dropped the vanity pet Razormaw Hatchling pictured on the right in the picture above. The hatchling no longer drops off of her but can now be looted directly from her nest Razormaw Matriarch's Nest and is a 100% chance drop. As of 4.2 she drops a green and a decent amount of experience for toons around her level.

Razormaw Matriarch does not need to be up for the nest to be spawned in and vice versa (they have independent spawn timers). I have found her alone before with no nest, I've found just the nest and I've also found both up at the same time as you can see in the video below. The nest will only spawn near the location of the rare raptor.

Jadefang

Jadefang Untamed, Tamed, & Non-Combat Companion pet
Jadefang is a non-elite, non-aggressive tamable rare found in Deepholm who if killed drops the Tiny Sale Spider companion pet. Here is a screenshot below of the Tiny Shale Spider pet. Please note that Jadefang can also be tamed by hunters.

The spawn timer on Jadefang seems to be between approximately 6-12 hours.
