Slaverjaw

Slaverjaw is a level 49 rare red hyena that can be found in southern Tanaris, just north of the Southmoon Ruins. He has only one spawn location and he does not patrol away from it; specifically he spawns right in the middle of several very large bones sticking out of the sand. I have indicated his spawn location in red on the map below.

He drops the typical green item and a fairly decent amount of experience for leveling characters.

He is also desirable as a hunter pet for mid-level hunters as he is the only tamable red hyena under level 82. The only other tamable red hyenas in the game are the level 82-83 Bloodsnarl Hyenas in Uldum. There are also hyenas with this exact same skin color in Western Plaguelands (Scarlet Hounds), but they are not tamable.

Slaverjaw can be found with NPCScan, but it isn't really necessary as he doesn't move from the location that he spawns at. If you do choose to add it, his NPCScan ID is 39185.

I currently have no idea as to what his spawn timer may be, but I did find him up the second time I came by looking for him. My guess is that it isn't very long, maybe 1-2 hours tops.

Hildana Deathstealer

Hildana Deathstealer is a level 80 rare val'kyr with 18.9k health. She can be found patrolling in two different locations in Icecrown. Those two locations are Jotunheim and Ymirheim, and I have indicated the areas in green on the map below. She is also one of three rare spawns in this zone. The others are Putridus the Ancient and High Thane Jorfus.

Hildana is part of the Northern Exposure and Frostbitten achievements. She drops Val'kyr Vestments which is a level 76 bind on equip mail chest piece with a random enchant. Like other Northrend rares, she also drops Abandoned Adventurer's Satchel, which generally contains about 20 gold, a full stack of frostweave cloth, and often times a few crystallized elements. She also yields a decent amount of experience for leveling characters.

She is very obvious when she is up because she is quite large and doesn't really blend into the areas that she patrols around at all.

Melee classes may have a little bit of trouble reaching her at first because she flies just ever so slightly and annoyingly out of range. If you have trouble hitting her just move backwards a bit until she starts following you  and that should move her down enough to hit her.

Ressan the Needler

Ressan the Needler is a level 9 rare white bat that can be found in Tirisfal Glades. He has a large patrol area that spreads from the fields of Cold Hearth Manor, past the Scarlet Watchtower and on to Nightmare Vale. He is pretty easy to spot when he is up because he is quite large and all of the other bats in the area are black. I have indicated his patrol area in red on the map below.

He drops the typical green or white item and a fairly decent amount of experience for leveling characters.

He is also desirable as a hunter pet for low level hunters because there are so few bats of this color and he is definitely the easiest to come by. The only other tamable white bats are: Blind Hunter, the level 35 rare elite in Razorfen Kraul and the level 75-76 Zul'Drak Bats. Blood Seeker, the level 15 bat that shares a spawn timer with Aeonaxx in Deepholm is also white but currently only stays spawned in for a few seconds when he does show up.

Ressan the Needler can be found with NPCScan. You will need to add it, his NPCScan ID is 10357.

You can also use this macro to help find and tame him:
/tar Ressan the Needler
/stopmacro [noexists]
/cast Tame Beast

I'm not sure on his exact spawn timer, but before Cataclysm it was between 1.5-2.5 hours. I believe it is much shorter than that now, probably more like somewhere in the 30 min range.

Bayne

Bayne is a level 8 rare purple demon dog that can be found in several different locations west and north of Brill in Tirisfal Glades. He is pretty easy to spot when he is up because he is a lot bigger than the other demon dogs in the area, and he is purple where they are blue. I have indicated the different areas that he can be found in red on the map below.

He drops the typical white item and a fairly decent amount of experience for leveling characters.

He is also desirable as a hunter pet for low level hunters as he is the only tamable demon dog in this color under level 71 and outside of an instance. The only other demon dogs that share the same model and color as Bayne are the level 71 elite Dreadbeasts in Karazhan.

Bayne can be found with NPCScan. You will need to add it, his NPCScan ID is 10356.

You can also use this macro to help find and tame him:
/tar Bayne
/stopmacro [noexists]
/cast Tame Beast

I'm not sure on his exact spawn timer, but before Cataclysm it was between 1-2 hours. I believe it is much shorter than that now.

Garr

Garr and his Posse
Straight out of Molten Core, I'd like to introduce...Garr! Yes, he's back. No, he doesn't drop his bindings. Garr is a level ?? rare rock elemental outdoor boss with approximately 12.9 million health. He can be found patrolling west of Sulfuron Spire in southern Mount Hyjal. I have indicated his patrol area in red on the map below.

As of patch 4.1 Garr drops one guaranteed purple item. He drops Garr's Reinforced Girdle of Memories which is a bind-on-equip item level 359 physical dps plate belt. He also drops about 450 gold, another epic item and some nice jewelcrafting designs.

He is one of 5 rare outdoor bosses added in Cataclysm. There is one in each Cataclysm zone. All of these bosses are:
Garr - Mount Hyjal
Julak-Doom <The Eye of Zor> - Twilight Highlands
Xariona - Deepholm

In order to defeat Garr you are going to need at least a tank, healer and a couple of dps.

Garr and his adds are not linked. Garr's adds CAN be pulled one at a time. The easiest way to down him is to pick off his adds one by one before pulling Garr himself. The adds have two abilities. The first is Immolate and is essentially the same as a warlock's immolate. Each add also has an Eruption ability which is similar to Garr's Massive Eruption. Although not deadly, it will still hit melee very hard (about 50k).

Garr has a few abilities that you should be aware of before you start the fight.

Antimagic Pulse - Dispels magic on nearby enemies, removing 1 beneficial spell effect. Nothing special here, just annoying.
Magma Shackles - Reduces the movement speed of nearby enemies by 60% for 10 sec. (magic) Garr will periodically cast this on random targets. It can be dispelled. The dispelling priority is tank first and then melee so that they can run out of his Massive Eruption.
Massive Eruption - Deals Fire damage to nearby enemies. (4 second cast) This ability is the killer. When Garr begins casting this spell all melee and the tank need to run away ASAP. Healers also need to make sure that the tank is not shackled by Magma Shackles and that their hp are topped off. Anyone who is still close to Garr when he gets this spell off will almost assuredly die. It hits for roughly 200k and does a very far knock back so getting out of it is an absolute priority. If the tank gets hit by this and lives the knock-back has the potential to reset Garr depending on positioning and the tank will likely be extremely low on health afterwords. In the video below you can see at 4:07 our tank was hit by the eruption and lived, but a sneeze probably would have killed him shortly after had the healers not been paying attention.

This particular group in the video below had 8 people in it, 1 tank, a couple of healers and the rest dps. (This fight can be done with 4-5 people as well, it will just take a lot longer and will obviously be more difficult.) The whole fight for our group lasted a little over 5 minutes (from pulling the first add) the fight with just Garr himself took about 2 minutes.

Mobus - The Crushing Tide

Mobus <The Crushing Tide> is a level ?? rare outdoor boss with approximately 12.9 million health. He can be found patrolling around the Abyssal Breach in Vashj'ir. I have indicated his patrol area in orange on the map below. He is very large and can be spotted easily from far away.

As of patch 4.1 Mobus drops one guaranteed purple item. He drops Mobus's Dripping Halberd which is an item level 359 physical dps polearm. He also generally drops about 200 gold, another epic item and some nice jewelcrafting designs.

He is one of 5 rare outdoor bosses added in Cataclysm. There is one in each Cataclysm zone. All of these bosses are:
Garr - Mount Hyjal
Julak-Doom <The Eye of Zor> - Twilight Highlands
Xariona - Deepholm

In order to down Mobus you are going to need at least a tank, healer and a couple of dps, although a full group is advisable if you don't want the fight to go on forever. I also advise that all dps and heals group up together on one side of Mobus because range can easily become an issue when fighting under water. Don't stack on top of one another but stay on the same side. This will help your healers tremendously.

Mobus also has a few abilities that you should be aware of before you start the fight.

Algae - Creates a pool of algae at a target location that deals Nature damage and slows enemies. Mobus will periodically cast algae on someone in your group. It is very easy to see and avoid. It just looks like a green cloud in the water, when you see it - move.
Enrage - Physical damage dealt is increased by 10%. Attack speed increased by 30%. (lasts 2 minutes) This can be removed by classes with enrage removing abilities. If nobody can remove it the tank may need a few extra heals depending on their gear.
Ram - Ram the enemy, dealing Physical damage and knocking back enemies in a cone in front of the caster. (5 second cast) The only person that should be in any danger of getting hit my this ability is the tank. It hits pretty hard but can easily be avoided. When the tank sees Mobus begin to cast Ram he should swim down before the cast finishes and then swim back up.
Wake - Mobus' powerful tail deals Physical damage to and knocks back enemies behind him. Periodically Mobus will cast Wake which will lead to a channeled Wake ability that deals a very fair amount of damage per second to everyone around him. This is also easy to avoid. When you notice him beginning to cast Wake swim down before he begins the channeled version of the spell. For this EVERYONE needs to swim down. When the channeling is finished everyone should swim back up to their original positions.

I've got a video below that shows the fight. This particular group in the video had 10 people in it, 1 tank, a couple of healers and the rest dps. It was definitely overkill. This fight can easily be done with 4-5 people as well, it will just take longer. The whole fight lasted about 2 and a half minutes for our group.

He is also one of eight rare spawns in Vashj'ir. All of them are:
Abyssal Depths-
Kelp'Thar Forest-
  • Lady La-La - Drops a nice level 80 healer trinket
Shimmering Expanse-

Update Jan 8 2012:
So I know this has been going on for a while now (I believe since 4.3 hit) and I figured I'd write a little something quick about it. I even noticed increased traffic to this particular post, probably because people are looking for an explanation as to why they are seeing their NPCScans go off half way across the world for Mobus. It seems like it's been going off for people all over Azeroth. Stormwind, Undercity, Twilight Highlands, Eastern Plaguelands, Ironforge, you name it. It seems like he can be picked up just about anywhere in all of Eastern Kingsdoms when he spawns. Check out my screenshot below, I almost peed myself when mine went off at the SW auction house because I had my volume way up.

You can even target him and see his cast bar. It's just the craziest bug. I'm sure it won't last forever either. Take advantage while you can. If you can get a group together fast enough run out there and kill him before someone else beats you to it!

Julak-Doom - The Eye of Zor

Julak-Doom is a level ?? rare outdoor boss with approximately 12.9 million health. He can be found in the Twilight Highlands in the northern most part of the zone patrolling just north of Kirthhaven. He is very large and can be spotted easily from far away.

As of patch 4.1 Julak-Doom drops one guaranteed purple item. He drops Vitreous Beak of Julak-Doom which is an item level 359 caster dps dagger.

In order to down this guy you are going to need at least a tank (preferably two), heals (preferably at least two) and a lot of dps. At least a full 10 man raid group is advisable but the more the merrier as this guy is kind of a bitch. (He can be downed with less but it'll be a lot tougher, expect a few wipes before getting it right.) I found him to be the toughest of all the Cataclysm outdoor group bosses.

Julak-Doom has a few abilities that you should be aware of before you start the fight. They are:

Black Breath - Creates a puddle of dark ooze that deals Shadow damage to all enemies in the area. If you stand in these you'll take about 6-7k damage per second so move out of them quickly. These are easy to see and pretty easy to avoid, just move away from the black smoking pools that periodically appear all over the ground. They will start off small and continuously grow larger after they appear and eventually disappear after 15 seconds or so.
Dark Whispers - Dark whispers invade the target's mind, forcing them to do the bidding of Julak-Doom. Removed when damaged below 90% health. Julak-Doom will mind control raid members and he can and likely will control more than one at a time. When someone becomes mind-controlled it is very obvious because they will grow extremely large. If you see someone mind controlled immediately begin dpsing them to break it. This is especially important if a healer gets mc'd because they will heal Julak-Doom making the fight a lot longer than it needs to be. Tanks can be mc'd as well and when they are they will loose aggro, so having two tanks is a good idea because the second can pick up threat. Once the mind-controlled player gets damaged enough (10% of their health) the mind control will break. Mind controlled targets can also be crowd-controlled.
Massive Shockwave - Stomps the ground, emitting a massive shockwave that deals Physical damage to targets in a cone in front of the caster and knocks them down. (3 second cast) This HURTS, plain and simple. Ideally the only person that should be getting hit by this at all is the tank as it hits for over 100k damage depending on where you are standing within the cone. The tank should face Julak-Doom away from the party and try to move to the side when Julak is about to get a shockwave off, the attack can be avoided by the tank but they will likely eat a few. It is also quite possible during the fight for the tank to be mc'd at an incredibly inopportune time, such as right before a shockwave which can turn Julak toward the raid. In this case heals and dps should try to get away from the front of him to avoid the cone as quickly as possible as getting hit will likely equal death. If you do die during the fight, the spirit healer is very close so just fly back down to your group and continue.
Julak-Doom also shoots eye beams periodically that will follow a person around. They don't do a significant amount of damage but you should still move away from them if you see them.

I would also like to note that Julak-Doom can be very buggy. He evaded and reset on us probably 3 or 4 times before we were finally able to kill him. Be careful not to move him too far from where he patrols.

I've got a video of the entire fight below. This was a random pug of 11 level 85's. We had two tanks and two healers and we had pretty varied gear. We wiped on him a few times due to resets and bad positioning. As you can see people died a lot to his shockwave due to said bad positioning but every time someone died they just ran back and rejoined the fight. The whole fight lasted about 7 minutes.

He is also one of five rare spawns in the Twilight Highlands. All of them are:

Sian-Rotam

Sian-Rotam is a level 53 rare white lion that can be found in northern Winterspring. He used to be a summoned mob for a horde-only quest where he would appear and help defend his mate, Shy-Rotam. In patch 2.3 the quest became available to alliance as well. Now Sian-Rotam is no-longer summoned and is simply a rare spawn that can occasionally be found sleeping behind his mate underneath Frostsaber Rock. He will not patrol away from this location once he spawns in.

Sian-Rotam has always been a desirable hunter pet, especially for alliance. The only other tamable white lion in the game is Echeyakee. Echeyakee is a level 15 spawned lion from a level 13 horde-only quest that starts at the Crossroads in Northern Barrens. If you play alliance, unless you get very lucky or have a friend playing horde who can help you, Sian-Rotam will probably be the easier of the two to obtain.

Sian-Rotam can be found with NPCScan, but it isn't really necessary as he doesn't move from the location that he spawns at. If you do choose to add it, his NPCScan ID is 10741.

I don't know much about his spawn timer but I did have to check his spawn location several times before I finally snagged this pretty kitty.

Hawkbane

Hawkbane Untamed
Hawkbane is a level 70 rare white striped cat that can be found high up in Skettis Plateau in south eastern Terokkar Forest. I have marked the area that he spawns at in orange on the map below. His new spawn location is behind one of the tall Skettis dwellings. He stands in the middle of three dead arakkoa (one is which he will be eating for lunch) who for some reason show up as hostile humanoids when using the track beasts feature on a hunter.

He is no longer elite and he has absolutely nothing of value on his loot table.

He does however make a nice hunter pet. The only other cat in game with the same color and model is King Bangalash in Northern Stranglethorn Vale.

Hawkbane does not show up on NPCScan Overlay. Silverdragon will pick him up and he can be found with NPCScan if you add him manually. His NPCID is 21724.

You can also use this macro to help find and tame him:
/tar Hawkbane
/stopmacro [noexists]
/cast Tame Beast

I'm not sure as to his spawn timer, but I can safely say it's not a phenomenally quick one. I had to come back to the area several times before I finally found him.

Syreian the Bonecarver

Syreian the Bonecarver is a level 73 rare vrykul with approximately 15k health. She can be found in eastern Grizzly Hills patrolling a very large area south of Drakil'jin Ruins. I have indicated the area where she patrols in red on the map below. She is also one of four rare spawns int he zone. The others are Arcturis (spirit bear), Seething Hate and Grocklar.

Syreian is part of the Northern Exposure and Frostbitten achievements. She drops Syreian's Leggings which are level 72 bind on equip leather pants with a random enchant. Like other Northrend rares, she also drops Abandoned Adventurer's Satchel, which generally contains about 20 gold, a full stack of frostweave cloth, and often times a few crystallized elements. She also yields a decent amount of experience for leveling characters.

She also really has no special abilities to note, she doesn't hit hard at all. Any one leveling in the area that comes across her shouldn't have any trouble.

Shanda the Spinner

Shanda the Spinner is a level 18 rare grey tarantula that can be found in southern Loch Modan southwest of Ironbrand's Excavation Site. She spawns in the cave that I have circled on the map below, she does not patrol once she spawns there.

She drops the typical green item and a fairly decent amount of experience for leveling characters.

She would also make a nice hunter pet for low level alliance characters that stumble across her. She does not have a unique skin or coloration but she is probably the first in this color that dwarven hunters can find without looking too hard. Low level Horde characters looking for this same skin and color should check out Creepthess, another rare spider in Hillsbrad Foothills.

Shanda is one of 5 rare tamable hunter pets in this zone. All of them are:
Ashtail, level 16 bluish-grey fox
Gosh-Haldir, level 15 green crocolisk
Lord Condar, level 17 white condor
Nix, level 17 yellow firefly
Shanda the Spinner, level 18 grey tarantula

Shandra can be found with NPCScan, but it isn't really necessary as she doesn't move from the location that she spawns at. If you do choose to add it, her NPCScan ID is 14266.

Before the Cataclysm her spawn timer was somewhere between 4-6 hours. I believe it has since been significantly reduced.

Lord Condar

Lord Condar is a level 17 rare white condor (carrion bird) that can be found in south eastern Loch Modan south of Ironbrand's Excavation Site. He has a pretty large patrol are and he flies around rather quickly, I have indicated where he patrols in red on the map below.

He drops the typical green item and a fairly decent amount of experience for leveling characters.

He is also desirable as a hunter pet for low level hunters as he is the only tamable white condor under level 70. The only other condors that share the same model and color as Lord Condar are level 70-71 Carrion Condors and the elite level 74 Dreadtalon in Dragonblight.

Lord Condar is one of 5 rare tamable hunter pets in this zone. All of them are:
Ashtail, level 16 bluish-grey fox
Gosh-Haldir, level 15 green crocolisk
Lord Condar, level 17 white condor
Nix, level 17 yellow firefly
Shanda the Spinner, level 18 grey tarantula

Lord Condar can be found with NPCScan. You will need to add it, his NPCScan ID is 14268.

You can also use this macro to help find and tame him:
/tar Lord Condar
/stopmacro [noexists]
/cast Tame Beast

I'm not sure on his exact spawn timer, but before Cataclysm it was between 4-6 hours. I believe it is shorter than that now. It is also said that he may share a spawn with the eagles in the area and can be forced to spawn by killing them until he shows up.

Gosh-Haldir - The Clutch Mother

Gosh-Haldir <The Clutch Mother> is a level 15 rare green crocolisk that can be found in the southern part of the dried up Loch in Loch Modan. She patrols the area with a bunch of other crocolisks. She is easy to spot because she is much larger than them and she has been upgraded to the new cataclysm crocolisk model where they remain rather dull looking.

She drops the typical green item and a fairly decent amount of experience for leveling characters.

She is also especially desirable as a hunter pet for pretty much all hunters who aren't worgen. She is the only tamable "true" green crocolisk in the game other than the Swamp Crocolisks in Gilneas. There are similar looking crocs that can be tamed in Silverpine forest and Uldum that will appear in this color, but they are "color changers" meaning that they will not always appear in this color when summoned.

Gosh-Haldir is one of 5 rare tamable hunter pets in this zone. All of them are:
Ashtail, level 16 bluish-grey fox
Gosh-Haldir, level 15 green crocolisk
Lord Condar, level 17 white condor
Nix, level 17 yellow firefly
Shanda the Spinner, level 18 grey tarantula

Gosh-Haldir can be found with NPCScan. You will need to add it, her NPCScan ID is 2476.

You can also use this macro to help find and tame her:
/tar Gosh-Haldir
/stopmacro [noexists]
/cast Tame Beast

Although Gosh-Haldir is rare, I believe that she is on a pretty short spawn timer. It seems to be somewhere between 1-2.5 hrs.

Nix

Nix is a level 17 rare yellow firefly that can be found in the middle of the Zone just north east of the small bit of water left in the dried up Loch in Loch Modan. He patrols the area with a bunch of other fireflies and is easy to spot because he is much larger than them and he is yellow where they are green.

He is especially desirable as a hunter pet for low level hunters as he is the only tamable yellow firefly in the game before the level 62 Bogflare Needlers in Zangarmarsh.

Nix is one of 5 rare tamable hunter pets in this zone. All of them are:
Ashtail, level 16 bluish-grey fox
Gosh-Haldir, level 15 green crocolisk
Lord Condar, level 17 white condor
Nix, level 17 yellow firefly
Shanda the Spinner, level 18 grey tarantula

Nix can be found with NPCScan. You will need to add it, his NPCScan ID is 45402.

You can also use this macro to help find and tame this guy:
/tar Nix
/stopmacro [noexists]
/cast Tame Beast

Although Nix is rare, I believe that he is on a pretty short spawn timer, probably somewhere in the 2 hour range at the peak.

Tukemuth

Tukemuth is a level 73 non-hostile rare mammoth with approximately 40k health. He can be found patrolling all over the middle of Dragonblight to the west of Wintergarde Keep and east of Galakrond's Rest. I have indicated the area where he patrols in green on the map below. He is one of three rares located in this zone. The other two are Scarlet Highlord Daion and Crazed Indu'le Survivor.

Tukemuth is part of the Northern Exposure and Frostbitten achievements. He drops Mammoth-Riding Boots which are level 72 bind on equip cloth boots with a random enchant. Like other Northrend rares, he also drops Abandoned Adventurer's Satchel, which generally contains about 20 gold, a full stack of frostweave cloth, and often times a few crystallized elements. He also yields a decent amount of experience for leveling characters.

For me this was one of the hardest rares to find. I've found him dead once or twice but live Tukemuth was pretty much a myth to me for the longest time. I believe its mainly because of the area that he patrols. It's highly traveled and the area itself that he patrols is huge. You can't just fly over a little portion of it and decide hes not up, you really need to check out the whole thing.

When he is up though, you should be able to spot him from pretty far away as he is HUGE.

A note to characters finding him around his level: Take precautions, he hits pretty hard with his trample ability. 3k + per hit. He moves VERY slow though, so classes with dots can safely dot him up and kite him around.

Vigdis the War Maiden

Vigdis the War Maiden is a level 71 rare vrykul with approximately 14k health. She can be found in the eastern part of Howling Fjord just east of Nifflevar and north of the Explorer's League Outpost. I have indicated the area where she can be found in blue on the map below. She is one of three rares located in this zone. The other two are Perobas the Bloodthirster and King Pin.

Vigdis is part of the Northern Exposure and Frostbitten achievements. She drops Soul-Sealed Belt which is a level 70 bind on equip plate belt with a random enchant. Like other Northrend rares, she also drops Abandoned Adventurer's Satchel, which generally contains about 20 gold, a full stack of frostweave cloth, and often times a few crystallized elements. She also yields a decent amount of experience for leveling characters.

Although she patrols around on a proto-drake, she will only be found patrolling on the ground. You do not need to look for her in the air.

She also really has no special abilities to note, she doesn't hit hard at all. Any one leveling in the area that comes across her shouldn't have any trouble.

King Krush

The King Untamed
King Krush unique-skinned level 75 rare green Devilsaur with approximately 42.5k hp. He can be found in Sholazar basin patrolling in three different locations which are indicated in red on the map below. He is one of three rares located in this zone, all of which are unique tamable hunter pets. The other two rares are Loque'nahak (spirit cat) and Aotona (parrot).

Unfortunately for all of the hunters out there looking to tame him, he is part of the Northern Exposure and Frostbitten achievements so people will be hunting him down intent on killing him. He was the rare that I actually received my Frostbitten achievement on.

He drops King's Eyesocket which is a level 74 bind on equip ring with a random enchant. Like other Northrend rares, he also drops Abandoned Adventurer's Satchel, which generally contains about 20 gold, a full stack of frostweave cloth, and often times a few crystallized elements.

He is unfortunately part of the Frostbitten Achievement, way to go Blizz I didn't want to kill him
King Krush is a tamable hunter pet. Please note that because he is a hunter pet that even though you may not have seen him before in Sholazar Basin it doesn't mean that he isn't already cached by NPCScan. If a hunter has this tamed pet out near you, your NPCScan will cache it. If it is cached in NPCScan and this rare is up your alert will not go off. Be sure to check and clear your cache often!

King Krush is an exotic pet, he can only be tamed by hunters that have the top-tier talent from the Beast Mastery tree Beast Mastery which allows the taming of exotic pets.

Note to hunters attempting to tame this guy:

He is immune to traps. This guy will walk right over them like they aren't even there.

He fears. He feared my hunter like 8 million times and had me running around all willy nilly into everything in the zone when I tamed him. I was on a level 85 toon so I was never in danger of dying, but it sure was annoying as heck.

He hits hard for his level.

People trying to tame him closer to his level will need to take some precautions. Using a "trash" pet to use up his fear I hear works quite well. Tame something close by, send in the pet and wait for it to be feared. Once the pet is feared, abandon it and immediately begin the tame. Using a core hound as a trash pet would be even more helpful if you have one, as you could pop ancient hysteria for the extra haste buff right before abandoning and beginning the tame.

Having a priest toss a fear ward on you would also be helpful if there is one nearby willing to help.

Killing him for Frostbitten Achievement:

Nubby Hunter Tame:
