Glorious! Achievement & New Rare Champions in Jade Forest

Quick beta update here: With the re-opening of the Jade Forest I was able to hunt down the last few rare Pandarian Champions needed for the Glorious! Achiement. I can confirm that as of right now there are a total of 56 rare Pandarian Champions that can be found across Pandaria. (See screenshot below.)

The rares added in the Jade Forest each drop a Small Bag of Goods, a nice blue bop piece of armor, and an epic item level 420 weapon. All of the weapons I found were bop, except for the Fishsticker Longbow which is bind on equip and drops off of Sarnak, a Saurok that spawns in a cave on the eastern coast.

Here is the video below of my hunter obtaining the Glorious! achievement by killing Morgrinn Crackfang, a mogu warrior found at the Terrace of Ten Thunders. ~

Although not a silver dragon, but maybe still a rare spawn - I did figure this was worth a mention. I ran across a regular elite patrolling around the hillside near the Shrine of the Dawn, just north of the Arboretum while looking for the new champions in the Jade Forest. His name is Martar the Not-So-Smart (Gnoll) and he drops a trinket called Martar's Magnifying Glass.

What to expect from this blog in the next couple of months:

I'm putting together some posts right now that will show you where all of these rares can be found, and my goal is to have them posted before - or shortly after Mists of Pandaria releases. I'm also working on finding some fun new rare hunter pets, and hope to have them mapped out as well - so stay tuned!

Searing Gorge Rare Spawns

Searing Gorge is a fiery and rocky zone located in the mid-Eastern Kingdoms. It is home to the Thorium Brotherhood, Dark Iron Dwarves, various types of fire elementals, golems and spiders. It is also home to seven rare spawns ranging from level 47-50.

Shleipnarr is a gorgeous fiery horse that looks exactly like the warlock Felsteed mount (my mount of choice for the warlock ground mounts). This rare is also very likely a reference to Sleipnir, the eight legged steed of Odin, one of the Norse gods. I hadn't realized this until I had read Navi's post: My favourite rare spawn(s). Here is the Wikipedia entry for Sleipnir for anyone curious: Sleipnir.

Both Slave Master Blackheart and Smoldar spawn underground in the Slag Pit, so if you don't run into them where their dots are on the map below - don't worry, they may still be up. If you don't use SilverDragon, just do a /target Slave Master and /target Smoldar to see if they are. Slave Master Blackheart spawns in the Slag Pit, right in front of the Quarry Gate. Smoldar spawns down in the lava pool right before you get to the Flamewraiths.

Update 2/15/23: There were seven new rares added to this zone in patch 5.1. To learn more about them, check out this post: Searing Gorge - Tamable Rares added in 5.1.

Sneak Peek: Special drops from Rare Champions of Pandaria

Each of the rare champions in Pandaria drops a nice piece of blue bop gear and a chance to drop Small Bag of Goods. Several of them also have a special item unique to that particular rare. These special drops include fun vanity items, trinkets, companion pets and items that will be very useful in pvp.

I've put together a list below of each one of these super fun items sorted by the zone they can be found in, along with screen-shots and which rare drops the item.

I will be updating this post (which will more than likely become it's own page at some point) as new items/information are available. Also, don't forget - you can click on the images to see larger, more detailed images. Until then, enjoy!

Videos of each new type of Rare Champion in MoP

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!! Mists of Pandaria Beta Post:

After days of searching, I'm pretty sure I've found every new rare champion that currently can be found on the beta. (The Jade Forest is still offline.) That includes the Saurok as well, which are not yet included as part of the Glorious! Achievement.

The achievement as seen in the screenshot above, will definitely be changing in the near future I'm sure. Not only are Saurok missing, but there are two rares (Kal'tik the Blight and Urgolax) that are listed twice. When all of them are added in there will be over 50 rares! =)

I've gotten pretty familiar with fighting each type of champion, and I can say the toughest ones for me as a hunter were the Panaren and the Jinyu. Well, the Pandaren were not necessarily difficult as much as they were annoying. With only one silence, if they got two heals off in a row their health would reach full again and the fights would just last forever.

The Jinyu I found difficult because not only do you need to interrupt a spell that will kill whatever they are targeting, but they hit pretty hard as well. The lower level Jinyu that I came across weren't that bad, but the higher level ones I had to try often more than once to get them down. I also had to blow every cd. One of the fights I actually finished with about 1% of my health left. Yikes!

Anywho, I thought it would be nice to actually show you guys how each of these rares actually fight instead of just writing about it. So without further adieu, here is each type of rare pandarian champion in action:

Hozen:
Bananarang, Going Bananas, Toss Filth

Jinyu:

Mantid:

Mogu Sorcerer:
Dark Bolt, Shadowbolt, Voidcloud

Mogu Warrior:
Devastating Arc, Summon Quilen, Titanic Strength

Pandaren

Saurok (not part of achievement yet):

Yaungol:

As I mentioned in my previous post about these rares, I will be mapping out where you can find all of them by zone in the near future. Until then, stay tuned! ^-^

Westfall Rare Spawns

Westfall, a zone populated mainly by humans and known for it's farms and rolling pastures is home to seven rares ranging from level 10 - 14.

As I've mentioned in previous posts, these rares give an enormous amount of experience when you find them on toons that are similar in level. Killing one of these rares is basically equivalent to one quest turn in, and finding them at rested will give double the xp - so be sure to look for these guys when your questing to speed up your leveling!

Slark and Brack, both murlocs (cringe), move VERY quickly along the shoreline. They also have the potential to pull a lot of friends, so be careful.

Vultros can be found in five different areas, each area he spawns at is littered with hay bales. He is tamable by hunters, and makes a nice pet for lowbies. He even has his own post here.

Master Digger spawns all the way at the back of the Jangolode Mine where the quest Livin' the Life takes place.

I also read that Leprithus only spawns at night. I have no idea if this is a rumor on not. It took me a while to finally find him up. When I eventually did find him up it was at night, although I did check his spawn area during the day as well. If anyone has seen him up during the day (not just light out - but actually during the daytime hours) I'd like to know purty pwease.

New Rares & Achievements Implemented in last MoP Beta Patch!

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!! Mists of Pandaria Beta Post:

I was pretty ecstatic this weekend when I logged into the beta to find that a massive amount of new rares and rare related achievements had been added in the most recent patch. There are three achievements related to a handful of rares that can be found in each one of the Pandaria zones. (That's a handful of rares in EACH zone, there are quite a few new rares! I counted 49 total on the list in the achievement tab - not all rares are currently listed on the achievement in beta.)

The new Mists of Pandaria rare achievements are:

A Worthy Opponent - Defeat one of the powerful champions of the Pandarian races that wander the continent.
Could We Find More Like That? - Defeat one of each type of Pandarian champion.
Glorious! - Hunt down and defeat each and every one of the Pandarian champions.

"Glorious!" MoP Achievement Rares (Click to Enlarge)
It looks like "A Worthy Opponent" is essentially the "Medium Rare"/"Northern Exposure" of Pandaria, and "Glorious!" is the MoP version of "Bloody Rare"/"Frostbitten", which I know a lot of people were hoping for. (Myself being one of them.)

Naturally I was slightly hell-bent on finding all of these guys the moment I found out about them, so I went a rare hunting rampage. I was able to find quite a few, and even knocked out the "Could We Find More Like That?" achievement in a few hours.

Earning the Achievement "Could We Find More Like That?"
These rares vary by level depending on what zone they are found in. Naturally the higher level ones have more hp and hit harder. Most of them are fairly straight-forward, and none of them hit particularly hard with their auto-attacks, however you will need to be aware of their special abilities. As a hunter I was able to solo each type of rare, but one of them took me about 7 or 8 tries at level 90. The ones I found most difficult to solo were the Jinyu (this is the one that took me 7 or 8 tries) and Pandaren (OMG have interrupts, and be good at them).

There are eight different types of mobs required to get the "Could We Find More Like That?" achievement. Each type has different special abilities. Some of these abilities will make it extremely difficult and maybe even impossible for certain classes to solo.

The eight types of rare champions are:
(Videos of each type can be see on this post)

Hozen:

Bananarang: Throws a banana that flies all around, its very obvious and easy to avoid.
Going Bananas: Jumps around, influcing physical damage on landing and will hit you with Going Bananas if he lands on you, ouch.
Toss Filth: Increasing taken by 11% for 30 seconds and stacks.

Jinyu:

Rain Dance: Channeled aoe spell that can easily be avoided, just run away from the water he tosses, can also be interrupted.
Torrent: A casted, and then channeled attack that WILL kill his target unless interrupted
Water Bolt: Not much to worry about, pretty basic attack. Don't interrupt.

Mantid:

Blade Flurry: This hurts, it will take 55% of your health if caught in this frontal aoe cone attack, it can be stunned
Tornado: This spell creates tornadoes that whip around the area, they are quite obvious and easy to avoid. It is important to avoid them as they cause Harsh Winds.
Windsong: He will put a buff on himself that will allow him to do more damage and make him immune to kiting abilities. (Stun will still work.)

Mogu Sorcerer:
(Some extra shadow resistance couldn't hurt with these guys)

Dark Bolt: Shoots the enemy with a dark bolt increasing weapon damage by 35%, pretty basic attack, not much to worry about.
Shadowbolt: 200% weapon damage (shadow), can be interrupted.
Voidcloud: 10% shadow damage aoe per second to those who stand in it, looks like a voidzone, very VERY easy to see and move out of.

Mogu Warrior:

Devastating Arc: frontal attack that deals 65% of your max health, but not difficult to move out of. Melee can run through him to the other side.
Summon Quilen: summons an add to assist, the add does little damage though and can be cc'd or ignored until it disappears after 30 seconds. (I just used ice trap on them or ignored them entirely.)
Titanic Strength: a rage effect that is used periodically, it will stack.

Pandaren

Chi Burst: This ability is used if you are more than 15 yards away, and it HURTS. Ranged if standing far away enough (but not too far) can be safe from both the Spinning Crane Kick and Chi Burst I realized after a 15 minute Pandaren fight...ugh.
Healing Mists: For the love of puppies....this MUST be interrupted! If not, it heals an absolutely ungodly amount of hp. Silencing shot couldn't be used enough during this fight...
Spinning Crane Kick: Cannot be interrupted, other than with stuns. Those in melee range will suffer Spinning Crane Kick.

Saurok (not part of achievement yet):

Grappling Hook: inflicts 450% weapon damage, and pulls you into him if you are more than 20 yards away.
Vicious Rend: physical dot that stacks.
Vanish: Vanishes into the shadows and removes debuffs...that means you Hunter's Mark!! rabble rabble...
Smoked Blade: Used when he comes back out of stealth.

Yaungol:

Bellowing Rage Increases damage dealt by 190%
Rushing Charge charges the enemy dealing 350% weapon damage and knocking them down if more than 20 yards away.
Yaungol Stomp aoe damage, deals 65% of your max health if your within 6 yards. Easy to move away from.

New Rares eh? What do they drop?:
(To see all special drops including vanity items, trinkets, full pvp items, etc... please see this post: Special drops from Rare Champions of Pandaria.)

I'm glad you asked! These rares are absolutely worth the effort in finding and downing. Not just because it feels great to actually get them down, but because they drop some amazing loot! The ones I killed dropped very nice item level 440 gear, and Vanity item collectors rejoice - we have a LOT of fun things to look forward to!! =D

Using my Hozen Beach ball and Pandaren Firework Launcher
I was able to nab a bunch of fun items off of these rares including: Hozen Beach Ball, Eternal Warrior's Sigil, Bottled Tornado, Shard of Archstone, Pandaren Firework Launcher and Forager's Gloves. I also received a Big Bag of Mysteries, Big Bag of Jewels, Big Bag of Skins and a bunch of Small Bag of Goods. These bags currently have no loot table so I can't tell you what is in them, but I am guessing that the Small Bag of Goods will be similar to the Abandoned Adventurer's Satchels that we saw in Northrend. Each rare seems to drop their own fun and unique item so far, and I've seen that some can even drop mini-pets - YAY!

Finding Them:

I'm sure when MoP is out we'll be able to use NPCScan and SilverDragon to find all of these guys, but until then using macros to target them in each zone does the trick. Simply copy and paste (ctrl-v to paste in game) into a new macro to use.

Like I've done in the past, I plan on eventually hunting down each and every one of these rares and posting about their abilities, what each one drops, where you can find them neatly laid out on maps and anything else interesting relating to them - so stay tuned! In the meantime, for more detailed and up-to date information on the loot that each of these guys drop, details on where to find them, etc.. check out the posts by Lore on the A Worthy Opponent page on WoWhead; he's currently compiling a list and editing it as people are finding out more.

Arathi Highlands Rare Spawns

Arathi Highlands is a large grassy zone in southeastern Lordaeron. Arathi has several notable features including great circles of binding protected by elementals, the ruins of Stormgarde Keep which has been overrun by ogres and syndicate, and the Thandol Span - a massive dwarf-made bridge connecting Arathi to the Wetlands. This zone is also home to ten rare spawns ranging from level 26-29.

An interesting thing to note about the rares in Arathi Highlands, is that none of them actually patrol around once they've spawned in.

Kovork can be found at the end of the cave at Boulderfist Outpost. Geomancer Flintdagger waits at the end of the cave east of Hammerfall (Drywhisker Gorge). Zalas Witherbark can be found just inside the cave at Witherbark Village.

Prince Nazjak has four different underwater spawn points in Faldir's Cove, but once spawned in he doesn't patrol between them. He can usually be found inside one of the sunken ships.

Singer can be found inside the small house at Northfold Manor staring at the fireplace. Be careful when engaging her on low level toons, and ironmen toons especially - she has a mind control ability and she can and will use it.
