Bloodtooth - Trackable Hunter Pet (Dragon Turtle)

Bloodtooth is one of the new trackable hunter pets that we'll be seeing in Mists of Pandaria. He is a level 87 dragon turtle that can be found patrolling along the shoreline and small islands in the southern part of Krasarang Wilds. (See map below for his exact path.)

How to track: In order to find Bloodtooth you will need to find and follow his tracks, which are only visible to hunters. Once you find the "end" of his tracks you will need to use a flare in order to make him visible. (If you are standing inside of the flare, you will aggro him.) I recommend not throwing your flare right in front of the most recent track, but instead  placing it slightly further out. The idea is to get him to walk through it. If placed too close to the most recent track, you will likely miss him. Once Bloodtooth has walked through the flare he will become visible not only to you, but to others as well. At this point you can start taming him, or you can throw a Hunters Mark on him. Hunter's Mark will allow you, and only you to see where he is. If another hunter applies their Hunter's Mark he will disappear from your sight when he goes back into stealth. If he is heading into an area filled with hostile mobs, placing Hunter's Mark on him and following until he is in a safe location to tame may be wise.

Bloodtooth's tracks are called "Muddy Tracks", and like other beasts' tracks they do not stay up indefinitely; the furthest ones behind disappear one by one as new tracks are created. His tracks are quite dark in color and he mostly walks along a fairly light surface, making them one of the easier sets of tracks to find. Be aware - he does patrol through the water quite a bit, so if you're tracking him and lose sight - don't forget to check the water!

(Tracks are now facing the correct direction as of patch 5.1. You no longer need to follow them backwards.)

Bloodtooth's path runs from Angler's Wharf on the eastern end of the zone, all the way to the wall that separates the Dread Wastes from Krasarang Wilds, called "The Southern Wall". It takes him exactly 40 minutes to move from one end to the other. When he reaches the end of his path, he simply turns around 180 degrees and heads back in the direction he came from.

Here are some visuals of Bloodtooth moving along his path starting at Angler's Wharf and moving westward toward his "turn around" spot near the Southern Wall. (All of these screenshots can be enlarged for a better visual by simply clicking on them.)

Angler's Wharf - Here you can see him heading toward the end of his path in the above far left screenshot, in the middle shot he has just turned around under water and on the right he is heading back through the village
Bloodtooth is leaving Angler's Wharf heading northwest in the above left shot, in the middle pic he is walking along the shore of the island Kea Krak, in the right shot he is continuing up the same shoreline
In the above left shot Bloodtooth is walking through the waters of Nayeli Lagoon, in the middle he is passing through two small hills on the peninsula just southwest of Dawnchaser Retreat, on the right he is nearing the end of his path
Bloodtooth turns around at the Southern Wall
I have a video below following Bloodtooth through his entire path starting from Angler's Wharf all the way to the Southern Wall. Naturally for sanity sake, I've sped up the video. Instead of running 40 minutes, it runs closer to 10.

Here is another video from when I first tracked him down and tamed him. (Note: there was some incredible lag after I threw the flare down. Usually beasts appear almost instantly when they step through a flare. He also never shrunk down in size after the tame - he is not really that big!)

    1. The Quillen's track is a bit shorter, but if anything most of the rest are far longer - especially the pink crane's....OMG that one goes all over the place.

  5. This guy was much easier to follow than Savage. I'm enjoying hunting for these rare pets, and am glad they made them visible to hunters only so I don't have to compete with all the people killing rares like the WotLK rare pets.

  6. Another success. Love your site. I got Savage about an hour ago and now I nabbed this guy. Thanks to you.

  7. What do you need to do to get the tracks to show up? I just went over the whole route and didn't see any tracks.

    1. There's nothing that you can really "do" to make the tracks show up. they are either there or they aren't. Odds are Bloodtooth was just not up at the time you went looking for him. Perhaps he had been recently tamed by another hunter. I'd come back after a couple of hours and look again. good luck!

    1. Although they have the same color scheme going on, Bloodtooth's model is slightly different. His shell is spiky where the other ones are smooth. As of writing this I believe he is still a unique model.

    1. You need to throw a flare down in front of his tracks. If he walks through the flare area it will reveal him.

  12. What is the spawn rate if it dies?

  13. I've thrown a flare to reveal him multiple times and start training him but it fails. What am I missing?

  14. Never mind... I just needed to have him in the flare area long enough. Got him. =)
