Patrannache - Trackable Hunter Pet (Crane)

Patrannache is a level 86 pink crane, and one of the new rare elite trackable hunter pets introduced in MoP. Judging by his name, color and the fact that he is also a bird; it seems that he is somehow related to the well known Mazzranache found in Mulgore. Personally, I'll be looking for this guy first when MoP hits for obvious reasons.

Unfortunately Patrannache can be quite difficult to track down. I definitely found him to be the toughest of these new hunter pets to find without a doubt. He has an incredibly long and windy patrol route through a very good portion of The Valley of the Four Winds. (See map below for exact path.) Luckily he can be tamed by hunters in any spec, and once found he makes a unique pet that really stands out.

How to track: Like the other trackable hunter pets, you will not be able to see him when he's up. He is completely stealthed. In order to locate him, you will need to find and follow his tracks - tracks that thankfully only hunters can see. Once you've found his tracks you'll need to follow them until you don't see any more. This is where I like to wait and watch where I think that he'll be walking next. Often times you'll see a new track appear right in front of you - this means you've found him!

Once you find him, the only way to see where he is, will be for him to walk through a flare. Don't throw your flare down on top of the track he just left, throw it a little further out in front of where you think he is. When he walks through your flare he will become visible. You can take this opportunity to tame, or you can throw a Hunter's Mark on him - which will keep him visible to you when he goes back into stealth. Hunter's Mark will make him visible to you, but only you when he's in stealth.

Patrannache's tracks are called "Barely-Visible Tracks", and they are very aptly named. Patrannache's tracks are incredibly difficult to see. They are very small, and blend right into the ground for most of his path. If you want any hope at all of finding these tracks it is an absolute necessity to turn ground clutter down to a minimum. I also found it helpful to hover my mouse over different anomalies in the terrain that I was scouring over so that the name of his tracks would pop up if I'd come across one. Like other beasts' tracks they do not stay up indefinitely; the furthest ones behind disappear one by one as new tracks are created. The best advice I think I can give when looking for his tracks is to take it slow, and check each area thoroughly. It is very easy to scan the terrain with your eyes and miss his tracks entirely - which may actually be right in front of you.

(His tracks are now facing the correct direction as of patch 5.2. You no longer need to follow them backwards.)

Patrannache's Path is hands down the longest and windiest of all the trackable hunter pets introduced in MoP. His path starts in the far east next to a tree by a small hill covered in grass and bushes. From there he heads west and literally winds his way through most of the zone. He walks through highly traveled quest areas, open empty fields, swims across water, he really does just walk all over the place. His path ends roughly in the middle of the zone, south of The Heartland just before the roads intersect. It takes him about 1 hour and 38 minutes to move from one end of the path to the other. When he reaches the end of his path, he simply turns around 180 degrees and heads back in the direction he came from.

Below I have several screen shots showing Patrannache moving along his path. The pictures start at the eastern end of his path and follow him as he moves west toward the opposite end south of The Heartland. (All of these screenshots can be enlarged for a better visual by simply clicking on them.)

The above screenshots illustrate the eastern end of Patrannache's path. You can see him heading toward it, and then turning around.
Above from left to right: Patrannache is heading west along the Yan-Zhe River, then turning north past Galleon on the Rumbling Terrace and heading across the river.
Above from left to right: Patrannache is heading northwest past Mudmug's Place (quest hub), then entering the Gilded Fan moving north and finally moving southwest through the Verdant Belt (Halfhill in the background).
Above from left to right: Patrannache is heading east over The Gilding Stream moving toward the Silken Fields, passing the Silken Fields, then moving south through The Plain of Theives and about to cross the Yan-Zhe River.
Above from left to right: Patrannache is walking west through Wind's Edge (Stormstout Brewery in the background), then passing bravely under the elite quest mob Darkhide on The Wild Plains, and finally continuing northwest through The Wild Plains.
Above from left to right: Patrannache is heading north past Stoneplow (the only area where I encountered any phasing issues with him), then through the hills bordering the Singing Marshes, and finally heading through the Singing Marshes.
In the above screenshots you can see the opposite end of Patrannache's path, just south of the Heartland and west of Halfhill.
Below I have a video following Patrannache throughout his entire ridiculously long path. I have sped up most of the video x6 to keep the length down (and it's still quite long...yeesh)! I recommend just clicking on the video progress bar at different intervals to try and find the portion of his path your looking for.

I have another (and thankfully shorter) video below of the first time I came across Patrannache's tracks, and then tamed him.

Oh yeah, did I forget to mention there's a pink crane mount? Well there is. Don't ask me how you get it. I don't know yet, but whatever it takes I MUST HAVE! Basically it goes like this: Patrannache + Pink Mount (and hopefully pink crane companion pet at some future time) = awesomesauce.

  1. I just tamed Patrannache and his tracks still point the wrong direction. I found a few of his tracks and tried to follow them but I lost his trail. I followed his entire path looking for more tracks but couldn't find any, so I went back to the exact spot I'd seen one of his tracks earlier. I sat on that spot and kept the flare down until he passed through again. It took a few hours, but was much less painless than running around looking for tracks. After I tamed him I sat on one of his tracks to see how long it would stay, and it was there for exactly 5 minutes (just in case anyone is wondering how long they are there for, because I was wondering.) Just figured I'd throw in my 2 cents!

    1. With tracks as hard to find as his, finding him that way was a good idea. (A painful wait I'm sure - but he's totally worth it!) Grats on your tame, and ty for the tip! =)

  3. followed your map and found him. tracks still point in the opposite direction. i currently use npcscan addon for rares , i used the petopia npc id list to find patrannache's id "50885" i entered this info and pet name into npcscan, once i felt i was far enough ahead of his tracks i sat and spammed flare till my addon gave me a sufficient warning that i'd found him. thank you for your maps on rare paths it was extremely helpful.

  4. Thought it'd be worth posting that the tracks are still backwards in November :) got him just then! That was pretty fun :D Thanks for the guide!

  5. Tracks are incredibly hard to see, as stated. He is also extremely slow moving. I think he is the slowest of the rare hunter MoP pets. I found his tracks just two or three of them, along the south of the zone on the ledge overlooking Krasarang. Lost them, and hunted for them like crazy until I I picked them up just a little south of HalfHill. I decided to launch my flare along his path just below the bridge south of HalfHill and the timing was perfect because he immediately appeared in the flare. Tracks of all the rares are still backwards, which is just idiotic. I have all the MoP rares now, including all four versions of Portent, except Glimmer. For my money this bird was the hardest to find. Thanks fo the path info, because without it, I don't knwo how I would have tracked this bugger down.

  6. I just tamed him and your guide is the reason why I found him. Found tracks off and on so I finally went far enough ahead to one of the starting points and just waited. Kept Flare up and THERE HE WAS!!! Thanks so much for this guide, I also have all four colors of Portent. Oh, and tracks are still backwards.

Just wanted to also say hey thanks for this! And yeah tracks are still backwards.

Two nights in a row I lost him in the Gilded Fan, but tonight I ran into his tracks between the the Silken Fields and Stormstout. Lost him again in the Nesingwary area, so I parked near the slopes leading to the Singing Marsh and went to make a snack. Your video was great for letting me find a spot where I KNEW he'd be within my Flares radius.

Worked like a charm. I'll definitely be coming back here for Hexapos and any other rares I decide I need for either of my hunters.

  10. anyone know if graphics quality will alter the visibility of the tracks? Also, just to voice my opinion... Blizzard REALLY needs to give us some extra stable space! As a dedicated rare pet collector I'm out of space and now I have to decide which of my other rares are less important to me...sadface.

    2. I just found a track in the marsh above Old Hillpaw's house and went to his turn-around point near the Brewery. In about 30 min there he was!
Hunter mark, (he is in total stealth and Hunter's Mark will keep him visible) and tame......was very easy to tame.
In 2 weeks of hunting I have only found 3 tracks all in the same area. Google Patronnache, watch the videos, look at the pics and print a map of his path. Match areas in the pics to real places.....it helps emensely in hunting him. Now for the perfect name!

  20. Really how slow does this thing walk?? I swear I always end up on his last footprints, can't even follow it. Once follow, it disappears. I'll stay half an hr and it doesn't appear anywhere else >_<

  21. Whooo :) Just got it, 5 min ago (14.40), I was not able to find his tracks so I was just hitting one place of his way with the flare and after like 30 minutes.. it was there :) :)Thanx for the video, it helped :)

  22. I tried off an on for 3 days to find him but with a winding path and the time it takes him to go from one end to the other I was going crazy. I finally decided to park myself. The best place I found, which is almost at the end is 30.57. This is a great place to park because it is between a road and a hill. I popped my flare there and after about 30 mins or so he walked right through the flare, there was no way he could go around it. Thanks for these posts it was very helpful.

  25. Tamed her tonight. Tracks point the right direction now

  26. Patrannache was definitely the hardest, but finally got him. Cut his trail near silken fields on a lucky flare drop, but aggroed some hostiles and didn't get hunter's mark. Tried finding him ahead of the spot, but missed him, dropping the flares off the mark, so I camped at the turnaround point, and he showed up about half an hour later. He does move slowly, But what a beaut and a worthy challenge for hunters. Well worth the effort. I had been trying to find him for over a week.

Euphyley - Thank you for all of the time and effort you put into this guide. It was very helpful. I can now say I have all 10 trackable rares on one character. Too bad Blizz didn't give us an achievement for that.

  27. Such a bummer that she's no longer a rare skin since I took so much time tracking her to tame her. :( Timeless Isle is ridden with this skin now :(

  28. Could you explain how to turn ground clutter down to a minimum? I have all the trackables except this one. Been working on it for longer than I care to admit. I haven't sat and flared a spot but I have patrolled an area for awhile as well as followed the path you outlined from end to end going slowly and hovering with the mouse and nothing. I am somewhat patient but maybe not as much as I should be. after a couple of hours at a time, I get bored and run off to do something else.

So direction about ground cutter would be greatly appreciated.

Also, your guide is invaluable. I would never have gotten even a hint that these guys exist without your blog. TY.

  29. Very hard to track in the open field. I tamed him at 26:49. I tracked him most of the way, then flew ahead and waited for him to emerge from the marshland pond. He has to walk in a straight line to go down the hill so his tracks are quite close.
