How to track: Like the other trackable hunter pets, you will not be able to see him when he's up. He is completely stealthed. In order to locate him, you will need to find and follow his tracks - tracks that thankfully only hunters can see. Once you've found his tracks you'll need to follow them until you don't see any more. This is where I like to wait and watch where I think that he'll be walking next. Often times you'll see a new track appear right in front of you - this means you've found him!
Once you find him, the only way to see where he is, will be for him to walk through a flare. Don't throw your flare down on top of the track he just left, throw it a little further out in front of where you think he is. When he walks through your flare he will become visible. You can take this opportunity to tame, or you can throw a Hunter's Mark on him - which will keep him visible to you when he goes back into stealth. Hunter's Mark will make him visible to you, but only you when he's in stealth.
Hexapos' tracks are called "Mysterious Tracks", and like other beasts' tracks they do not stay up indefinitely; the furthest ones behind disappear one by one as new tracks are created. His tracks are fairly light in color compared to the dark ground that he's walking on - making them a little easier to find in my opinion. As I've mentioned before, turning ground clutter onto the lowest setting will make finding tracks a lot easier.
(As of patch 5.2 it looks like Hexapos' tracks are now facing the correct direction. No more following backwards tracks! Thanks Nyxie for the info!)
Hexapos' path starts from the the very northwest part of The Briny Muck, where the Venomous Ledge and the Stinging Trail Meet. He heads east for the first third of his path, until he reaches the Chittering Coast and veers north. He continues north until he makes a loop just east of Kypari'Vor. From there he moves west across the length of the zone until he reaches the edge of a cliff in Rikkilea. It takes him around 50 minutes to move from one end of the path to the other. When he reaches the end of his path, he simply turns around 180 degrees and heads back in the direction he came from.

Below are some screen-shots I've taken along Hexapos' path starting from the south end of his path along the Stinging Trail moving all the way to the northern end of the path in Rikkilea where he turns around. (All of these screenshots can be enlarged for a better visual by simply clicking on them.)
Above from left to right: Hexapos is heading east on The Stinging Trail just north of The Brink Muck, and then continuing toward Mazu's Overlook |
Above from left to right: Heading through the Chittering Coast, then walking through the shallow edge of the Lake of Stars and up into The Horrid March |
Above from left to right: Heading west through the Thundering Run after making his northeast loop. In the right screenshot he is beginning to cross the Horrid March, just south of Fear Clutch. |
Above from left to right: Hexapos is heading west just south of Rikkitun Village, and heading toward the northern end of his path. |
Here is another video below of tracking and then taming him.
Ooh another great job! :)
ReplyDeleteTamed his right this moment thanks to this post!
ReplyDeleteGrats!! ^-^
DeleteGot him, Thank you once again for this post :)
ReplyDeleteGonna hope this is my 5th one. Already have Bloodtooth, Savage, Bristlespine, and Stompy
ReplyDeleteWould you know how long it takes for him to come back after being tamed? I asked my bf to look up on wow head for any tips for me and he forgot to say that his foot prints are back to future.(lesson learned do it your self next time) I found the foot prints but followed them the wrong way.. by the time i got annoyed an my bf took over looking for him, he started from the start to follow the foot prints and he find another hunter taming it. :(
ReplyDeleteAfter a mth of several attempts hrs each time.... fianally got Hexapos today and wow well worth the effort... beautiful pet .. thx so much for ur guide :))
DeleteGot 90 tonight and went out to tame this fellow after doing the necessary starter 90 stuff -- your map was all I needed, plus the "footprints still point backwards" info. Thanks again for all the work you put into this stuff!
ReplyDeleteFor other tamers -- what I did was go follow about half his path, from the Forgotten Mire on south and then when I hit the end of the path at the sea I swung out to start at the opposite end. I don't know if this helped, since when I found him he was almost back to the southern end again... but picking him up near the turn-around point was really helpful, since I could just go put a flares on top of some footprints and then wait for him to come back that way.
yay got him today thanks to you!!! soo happy :) they fixed it and u do follow the footprints forwards now NOT backwards!! good luck everyone :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your tame, and tyvm for sharing the info about his tracks! Edit incoming. :)
DeleteAnd thx again for the video, I did the same as the last one, spamming the flare at his path and he was there after 25 minutes :) got him.. thats the fourth today :) ok time for another one :) Leo
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your on a roll, grats! :D
DeleteÁthan [Draenor]
ReplyDeleteCaptured!
Thanks, got him!:)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this guide! had been tracking for a while, but then lost the tracks! Was disappointed as I thought I'd missed him, but I checked the map you put up, followed his path and eventually found him again! Just tamed :)
ReplyDeleteYour maps, instructions, and videos were VERY helpful and spot on. I found him and had him tamed in less than 30 mins. The tracks now face in the correct direction. Thank You for taking time to post a how-to guide, it is much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited! Just read the information here, and after about 5 minutes of waiting in a middle spot of his route, I found and tamed him! I thought I would be there for a long time waiting before I found him. And found Glimmer yesterday in about 10 minutes. I love your site, and am on it almost every day. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteHuge pain to catch Hexapos, due to the terrain making flare have a smaller diameter, as well as the Yaks that are walking where Hexapos is, so tab targeting is a no no. Other then that, I caught him at the bottom of the path.
ReplyDeleteNice guide, though details about the taming is missing. I Found it and tried to tame it, but it just vanished ...haven't found again :-(
